I loved that band. They were the soundtrack to every Bring Your Own Cup Night I ever attended at the old Terrapin Station. (And yes, I am old, thanks so much for asking.) I can’t remember a note they ever played, but that’s beside the point. I’m just impressed that they’re still around.
As awesome as they were, though, right now I’m more interested in Jahvid Best, the running back from Cal who just might run all over Byrd Stadium this Saturday if the Terps don’t have their A stuff.

In the two games thus far, the Terps have allowed 121 and 128 rushing yards. That’s good for fifth in the ACC out of the 10 teams that have played twice. That’s as rock solid as a freshman liver after Bring Your Own Cup Night. You better fear our fair-to-middlin’ run defense, Cal! Everyone said it was just going to be fair. But where are all the haters now that we’re middlin’, too?
In any case, the Terps haven’t faced a guy like Jahvid Best this season. In last week’s crushing of Washington State, he went for an even 200 yards with TD runs of 5, 80, and 86 yards. And he did this all in 14 carries. In just over one half of play. He also runs the 100 in a nearly Boltian 10.31 seconds.
The closest thing the D has seen to Best has probably come in practices with Da’rel Scott, who with 320 total rush yards ranks third in the nation right now. But Best might be on another level. His hometown writers are already pimping him for Heisman, and if Beanie Wells can’t get back on the field for Ohio State, Byrd Stadium might be watching the nation’s top running back this weekend. We’ll see whether the Fridge’s pep talks and back rubs had any effect this week. Goterps.
