Shaun Hill just wins ballgames. Unless he loses at the last second.

You may remember Shaun Hill from such films as Maryland Makes the Orange Bowl, alllll the way back in 2001. He ain’t pretty to watch, but you know what? He gets results, dammit! At least some of the time. In his third career start last night, his team lost on the last play, but Hill still looked pretty good, throwing for 217, 2 TDs (including one to fellow Terp alum Duke Davis), 2 INTs, and one super gutty run on third-and-12 where a defender knocked his helmet off but he kept going to pick up the first. The last-second communications breakdown that cost San Fran the game apparently wasn’t his fault.

Here’s hoping Hill’s gutty effort (and I understand that coach Mike Singletary may be slightly interested in gutty efforts, among other things) earns him enough accolades for at least one more NFL start. But hey, whenever you can beat out J.T. O’Sullivan, you know you’ve arrived.

Career QB ratings for 49er QB’s:

    Hill – 89.8
    O’Sullivan – 71.2
    Smith – 63.5 (THAT’S PUTRID!)

Shaun should get a chance to play the rest of this year out. One thing you forgot to mention is that Mike Singletary is a psycho, and he may not make a rational decision here.

Looks like the coaches liked him and he’ll get at least one more start.

He was pretty decent in Minn., too, in limited action. It would awesome if he could stay in the league long enough to not have to work anymore. That’s probably the best-case scenario for him. He actually tells people he’s a UPS driver right now b/c they don’t know any better and he doesn’t want to bother explaining the NFL thing to them.
