Oh, sorry. That’s Cory Holt. My bad, yo. Although Cory Holt bears more than just a name resemblance to the balding Rams receiver. Up until this week, he was practicing at wideout for the Hokies…even though he wasn’t getting any more PT at that position than he was at QB. That is, until both Tyrod Taylor and Sean Glennon went down for Virginia Tech last week against Florida State. Now it may be all up to Holt. Cory Holt.
Yeah, Holt is a fifth-year senior, but something tells me there’s a reason I haven’t heard of him over the past half a freaking decade he’s been with the program. I’m sure Tech fans are hoping that his ability to hold a clipboard and squirt Gatorade into the real players’ mouths is put to good use when Holt hands it off to some guy named Jahre Cheeseman.
So yeah, not exactly Michael Vick and Shyrone Stith this year for the Hokies. But tomorrow at home against the Terps, they may not need to be. Maryland doesn’t play well at night, or, for that matter, at Viriginia Tech. (That 55-4 creaming in 2004 still hurts.) Plus, the Va. Tech defense and special teams are still nasty. And finally, I think Tech probably needs this game more than Maryland does, although it is important for both. Can the Terps win it? Yes they can. But they’ll need to come out fired up (but not too fired up) and ready to take care of business in Lane Stadium. Torry Holt or not, that would be a first for the Terps.
